In an effort to strengthen its systems and to safeguard citizen’s privacy, the Unique Identification Authority of India (UIDAI) announced that no entity is allowed to store Aadhaar copies unless the first 8 digits of the Aadhaar number have been masked.
Now, it is not as simple as it sounds.
Collection and storage of Aadhaar copies have been as common to business as is storing mobile no to mobile operators.
However, this new directive passed by UIDAI may come across somewhat obstructive in the otherwise smooth practice of taking a picture of the Aadhaar card and sending it for business operations and verification processes.Think about it, an app installed in your phone which can mask the Aadhaar number, the way UIDAI has instructed, in real time while you capture the document.
